AussiePeople SEO Software Review:
Let me begin by telling you a few misconceptions, that everybody suspects but are usually not prepared to state. The first thing is that unless you pay a ‘lot’ of money, you can never get to number one on the search engines. Number two is that search engine linking, submission and optimisation schemes and software don’t work, except to relieve you of more money. Number three is, because no one knows how many websites or web pages there really are no statistics are accurate. The best guess today is that there could be in excess of twenty trillion web pages.
On all three statements above I’ll give my reasons why I believe you can get to number one, and why some software does deliver on its promises and why you can believe the statistics.
An important thing to consider is that I am a self thought web designer, who has been creating websites for well over twenty years. I have commercial clients that I look after and some have been with me for many years, essentially I am a small player, a lone wolf and this is my take on all the hype that abounds around the entire concept of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
As a small player in a big space, I had for years had the same doubts as everyone and because of serious budget constraints, I could never really afford the top-shelf software and gained all my skills by using free tools and doing things manually, very slowly, my time truly was not being used efficiently. Of course I didn’t know that at the time and I thought I was doing okay.
After a time the Internet grew as we all know, it grew to such a size and continues to grow exponentially today, that a lone websites was easily lost languishing down at position one million or worse. It was inevitable that software, techniques and an entire industry would evolve around the humble search engine, which rose from a mere list, to the virtual holy grail of the Internet itself.
To rank highly on the search engines today, in your space is the most sought after prize and carries with it an almost guaranteed reward of endless traffic, which in turn could lead to increased sales and exposure. Needless to say I was stubborn and resisted proper software until most other smarter designers had already figured out that you can get the software to do the endless, manual tasks, the monotonous tweaking and time consuming jobs that must be done, routinely.
I used to think that putting some Meta Tags at the top of your webpage, and including the longest possible listing of keywords was basically all you had to do, I knew of course that having external links was a good thing, however by and large I was of the opinion that the Net would take care of itself and your ranking would be what it was regardless of what you did to your pages. Oh how wrong I was on that score.
When the Google toolbar was developed and became a popular free download, it carried with it an amazing tool that could actually rank your page according to a numeric score, this was a quick look to see how well Google rated your webpage. Amazingly in less than one minute, you can reword your webpage, upload it to your server and refresh the page and see an increased score, this is real and anyone can do it on any web page on the Net.
However, your joy might not last if you get a good score of say 5/10 or higher because if you type the keywords of your website into Google itself, you might spend the next couple of years clicking on links down around the nineteenth million listing, especially if you are in a large space like mine, which is web designer. If you are in a smaller space say pizza maker, you might have 386,000 a lot less than the 19 million I have to contend with.
STOP and think about it, I am fighting against 19 million other web pages for a random surfer to find my one single webpage, then I’m hoping he visits my site based on a few words that appear under my name in the Google listing, then I hope he likes what he sees when he arrives at my home page, I only have about 15 to 20 seconds to impress him, then I hope he is inspired to actually contact me and get me to do him a website – tough job isn’t it?
Now you can see why I had to actually get my own site up the rankings and then after learning how to do that, offer it to my customers. The key thing is numbers, I have been throwing large numbers around like twenty trillion and nineteen million and it just flows from the keyboard so easily, but these numbers are enormous and no human can work through a number that large doing any task, let alone a series of tasks. Of course software is the answer and luckily I found the right software.
I say luckily because there is an almost infinite amount of software and promises to make things easier, get you ranking higher and so on out there that finding a seriously good software program is almost as hard as getting your site to rank number one on Google. I found a software program called Web CEO and like all good software they let you download it and use it free of charge with some limitations. Naturally you can upgrade to higher versions which remove the limitations, I see nothing wrong in this try before you buy approach, it has an honest and sincere ring to it, if it doesn’t do what you want it to do, then delete it off your system, it’s that simple.
Like a growing number of clever larger companies I downloaded the free version (click the image above for yours) and started learning about it, at first I was thrilled that they had 16 separate videos that I could watch that demonstrated every aspect of the entire process from start to finish. To me this was like giving water to a thirsty person in the desert, I don’t enjoy reading tens of thousands of words and by far would rather watch videos. Of course the written help is there as well, and is centred around an accreditation course, well I’m not interested in accreditation, I’m too old for that, but they do offer it.
I watched the videos and then started doing a real optimisation for one of my customers who was absolutely not to be seen anywhere on any of the search engines. I was amazed at a good many aspects of the overall software but some things stood out to me more than others, I guess that is one of the real strengths of the entire package, it is so comprehensive and covers everything, that different users will simply focus on the parts that suit them most.
I decided on my first time to follow the process as the videos had demonstrated and herein lies one of, if not the singular most brilliant aspect of the entire program. Web CEO selected 12 tools, each does a uniquely different function and arranged them into 4 groups of 3 tools. When using the program you move through the 4 groups in sequence and there is a logic to the positioning of the tools that makes sense and gives you a firm direction. The part that is brilliant is the idea of creating a project, and having the data that you collect and modify in the first tool carry over to the next and all subsequent tools in the program. You can even import the data into other projects, which in my use equates to other customers.
Each tool has advanced features and looks at the issue thoroughly, in the beginning you need to find the best keywords for your site, of course if you are a ‘clever-boy’ you will quickly jot down half a dozen words in twenty seconds flat, easy isn’t it!!! Wrong again, there is more, much much more to it than that, for starters you can see what people have been using as search queries to find the top ranked pages of existing sites that have the same keywords you are considering. You can also compare your sites keywords to that of your direct opposition, see why they are out ranking you and choose a strategy that will leapfrog you over them.
The next tool lets you optimise your page, this is just such an amazing section that I hardly know how to describe it. Basically after doing some analysis of your webpage using your new keywords, you are given step by step, actually line by line help on how to rewrite each line so that you rank higher. I have never seen any program of this complexity in all the years I spent searching for the perfect program. The great thing is you can implement the suggestions directly onto your webpage, then upload it, refresh it and check to see how it improved the page and then run the optimisation tool again and keep doing this process until you have it as high as it will get. It is very similar to teaching the software about your site and everything you teach it, it retains and further improves upon with each iteration.
Once you have used the optimise tool, you can use an edit tool and make the changes directly to your local pages for uploading to your live server, yes I know you could use your own editing software, but the fact is, it is all bundled into the one smooth interface and you just point and click and all your editing changes are done, faithfully and without any additional code being added in as some editors seem to do these days.
The next 3 tools are about promoting your site, all three sections are powerful and cover their area more than satisfactorily, these are Submit URL’s, Find link Partners and Manage PPC Campaigns. Each of these areas are vitally important in the overall scheme of improving your rankings and usually needs a lot of time spent in each section. The Web CEO software makes finding partners a breeze, in fact I better not describe it too deeply because this is only meant to be a review and not a technical report, I am after all just a web designer, but let me tell you this, the promotion of your site has never been easier, quicker or as in-depth.
The next bracket of 3 tools is called Analyse Your Site, and has the tools called Check Rankings, Analyse Link Popularity and Get traffic reports. Once again as the names imply this section is where you naturally want to check to see what impact the changes you implemented earlier really have had. Continually your project manager keeps track of your data and seamlessly moves it from tool to tool, this saves time like you wouldn’t believe. If you have to leave and come back another day, simply close the program and everything will be saved and your exact position in the entire process will be remembered and the next time you open the program, you will be repositioned exactly where you left off, this is stunningly amazing and gives you and enormous edge over using free tools that you indiscriminately use that only do a singular function and have no ability to track, organise and direct you through the entire process.
The fourth block of 3 tools is called Maintain Your Site and the tools in it are Upload Files Over FTP, Control Site Quality and Monitor Site Uptime. As the name implies, the fourth major section is for once you have researched the best words and phrases to use, looked at the top ranked sites and your opposition, made changes to your own pages, edited and reworked the pages till you got it right, then submitted your pages to all the search engines and sent out link-partner requests, looked at the reports to make sure everything was going your way, it is then time to upload and keep your site maintained.
I’ve taken quite a while to describe in plain English how the entire process is strung together logically, with a purpose. The truth is, It took me longer to write this than it takes to optimise a website, especially once you have gained a little experience in using it. Remember that you can reuse data across different projects, different websites, you will be surprised at how much similar information can be used throughout your different customers. For instance, I do all sorts of websites, but it seems that a good majority of them are for sports related sites i.e. sports people or sports bodies or products, thus it follows that a lot of the data I have for one sports focused website can be reused for other sports focused websites.
Okay, so why have I written this review? Truth – because I made a heap of cash doing search engine optimisation for people who were glad to pay me because they were thrilled to finally get on the first few pages of Google. Now as I have stated on my own Aussiepeople.com.au website, there is no guarantee that you can ever get to number one on Google, but there is every reason to believe that you will rank higher after using Web CEO than if you don’t use it, that is a simple fact and I 100% recommend the software as being the finest I have ever seen or used.
I am not worried that people will use Web CEO instead of using me, the reason is simple, of the 20 trillion web pages, that have been created so far, most were done by web designers and it’s true that an individual website owner could buy the software and do it himself, but in my mind highly unlikely. People who have websites that describe the business they are in, are busy running their business and if they are successful they know that taking their eye off the ball is dangerous, they do what they do well, run their business, not become quasi website designers, that is better left to professionals like me.
What about other proper web design companies, why aren’t I worried I’m telling them or giving them a way to beat me into the ground? Well, that’s a good question and in the beginning that is exactly what I though also, but then once I looked at the numbers long and hard, I eventually realised that the internet is not going to go away, the number of pages will continue to grow long after my lifetime and I needn’t worry about giving away secrets, that is a petty way to think. I am glad that I am doing a better service to my own personal customers and if everyone else did that, the bar would be raised even higher and that would drive my desire for excellence even higher, I honestly believe that competition is a good and healthy thing. I have seen it in action over my own lifetime with my own business and I am not just paying lip service, I valued my own reputation far more than any kickback any company could give me.
So give
Web CEO a try, you have
ZERO to lose, everything to gain. You will download it and have it running in a few minutes, you can watch the videos one section at a time or read the written notes, your choice and the thing that underpins the entire operation, is the support. I stay up all night sometimes like a true tech-head working in the early morning hours when the phones never ring, and regardless of when I have ever written, I get a support reply very quickly sometimes the turnaround is just mere minutes. If you want to download a free, no obligation version of the software follow this link, and good luck to you. You will be battling me all the way up the search engine rankings and if we are both lucky, I’ll see you at or near the top!
