A NEW SLANT ON AN OLD IDEA

The Gravity Push Universe.

Gravity is with each of us every moment of our daily lives, from the instant of birth through till death, it cannot be escaped, it is fundamental but completely misunderstood.

Therefore we ask the question how does gravity really work. We say really because we can easily look up a website and find a mathematical formula like:

Newton’s law of gravitation simplifies to F = ma, where m is the mass of the body and a is the acceleration. This assumption is reasonable for objects falling to Earth over the relatively short vertical distances of our everyday experience, but does not necessarily hold over larger distances, such as spacecraft trajectories, because the acceleration far from the surface of the Earth will not in general be g which is acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s2). A further example is the expression that we use for the calculation of potential energy Ep of a body at height h ( Ep = mgh or as Ep = Wh, with W meaning weight). This expression can be used only over small distances h from the Earth. Similarly the expression for the maximum height reached by a vertically projected body, h = u2 / 2g is useful for small heights and small initial velocities only.

Now the above paragraph may well be correct in what it states, but it does take into account the vast distances of our universe, nor does it stand up to the pressures exerted on the infinitesimally small particles either. So we have a gap in our understanding, it works for us in our neck of the woods, but has serious flaws at the two extremities of the size spectrum.

Another important point that needs to be stressed at the beginning of any serious discussion on gravity is the difference between gravitation and gravity. In scientific terminology gravitation and gravity are distinct. Gravitation is the attractive influence that all objects exert on each other, while "gravity" specifically refers to a force which all massive objects are theorized to exert on each other to cause gravitation. Although these terms are used interchangeably in everyday use, in theories other than Newton's, gravitation is caused by factors other than gravity. For example in general relativity, gravitation is due to spacetime curvatures which causes inertially moving objects to tend to accelerate towards each other. The work of many great men such as Newton and Einstein give us a great deal of theory, fact and mathematics to quantify the effects of gravity. We do not seek to undermine their work, but rather to understand it better. In fact our main objective is to take the collective contributions of all the great theorists of the past, combine it with observational experimentation results and add the ideas of today’s great thinkers, on the one website free of hidden agenda.

Because gravity is with us all the time, perhaps maybe why we never think to ask the question, “How does it work?” What messages travel through space and time to hold everything in place, us included.

I have often looked at the night sky on a clear dark night and marveled at all the stars and although there are many to be seen with the naked eye more and more are revealed as one applies optical aids to assist the search, yet we see only a small part. Exactly how many stars are out there can be suggested, but the enormity never lets us come close to the comprehension needed.

Looking at the stars available still made me think of where their light reached. We see pin points of light but that pin point is visible in so many more places than you may think about and travels incomprehensible distances. I wondered firstly why a comet was unlikely to hit the Sun. If you drop a stone it finds the planet rather easily. Yet a comet having to travel some 2 to 3 light years to get to the Sun still seemed incapable of taking a good aim. Clearly it comes close but a miss is a miss.

This forced me to ask why should comets miss, I concluded that as light had a speed the message of gravity must also have a finite speed. It was then easy to understand that a delay to the message of gravity could cause the comet to miss. The comet was always aiming for a target that was some distance ahead of the location given by the message of gravity so a fast pass of the Sun is all our comets can manage presumably due to the gravity message traveling at a finite speed.

From there I began to wonder how the message of gravity could be communicated, was it energy, some other mysterious unknown force perhaps. We all see gravity as something that attracts so at first I worked on a system that would allow objects to interact by attraction. I could not fathom this method no matter how hard I tried. Attraction seemed to need two messages, in the case of the Sun and the Comet, one from the Sun saying I’m here, and another form the comet saying, I’ll be there as soon as I can.

If these messages had a top speed of C (the speed of light is 299, 792, 458 m / s) communication would be limited for an out and back message to half the speed of light. So once again I began to wonder about the many stars and their light reaching everywhere, would their energy push? Maybe it was a pushing effect of the “star light” that created gravity, such that we are being pushed to the surface of our planet rather than being held by a force of attraction.

The more I considered how such a system could work the more I became convinced that the idea of a Pushing Universe may well be the case. Objects would not need to know of the presence of other objects and gravity would occur by imbalances in the push caused by mass shielding star light from a particular direction.

In the case of our planet we experience more push from above than the opposite subdued push from under our feet, and there would be a push from under if one saw that the particle carrying the message when passing through the planet to reach us gave up energy so an imbalance of pressure could exist to be experienced as a gravitational effect.

Starlight is a general term to describe the particles action but the notion brings us closer to the way a push Universe may work. Over time I began to see that a system of particles flying about, coming from everywhere at every angle constantly and reaching every place would create a Universe that held together by this Universal force of particles rushing about and creating a pushing effect.

This is how the idea of Gravity Push was formed. I see no reason to abandon accumulated knowledge, or reject such things as the Theory of General Relativity and the notion of spacetime as these ideas sort to record what was happening in space rather explain why it was happening. Finally I concluded it was this Universal Pressure that created the Gravity Push Universe.

I have tried to apply the notion to many things and some more obscure matters not often thought of in terms of science literature. Some areas I see the Gravity Push effecting are, optics, momentum, gravitation and a connection between the eternal flow of particles and electricity and magnetism. This is a matter where speculation is encouraged not to support a theory but to build a hypothesis, for all I have speculated upon is no more than an idea at this stage.

Theory has rigid constraints when used in science. A theory is much more than an idea, so let there be no illusions we are speculating upon an idea here. However in that speculation be aware that if we can offer experimental evidence or observations to support the idea, we may be able to evolve into a theory. I have enlisted the minds of some great thinkers who have graciously become coauthors, but more importantly who have spent months discussing various aspects of gravity push on different forums throughout the Internet.

To those coauthors I would like to express my sincerest heartfelt gratitude, despite the original observation being mine, it would never have grown to its current status via me alone. I often think how much more the great minds of the past like Newton and Einstein would have achieved if they had the Internet back then.

I think the push is self evident by observing the galaxies around us, attraction alone will never hold them together, but an external pushing force will do the job most adequately. To conceptualize the Gravity Push Universe we must abandon our belief that a force we call attraction exists. In the Push Gravity Universe there is no need for it, thus no need for exotic matter (dark matter) to explain what is unexplainable. If you delete attraction and work with the obvious and dominant force of gravity push, you satisfy Occam's razor which states, “the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating, or "shaving off," those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the theory”.

Convinced that gravity push is worthy of more investigation I called for alternatives to push, could anyone satisfactorily describe the force of attraction and explain how it really works, without offering sublime Band-Aid fixes to cover gaps in the understanding.

With the help of my coauthors Ron and Shawn, we have a forum for discussing the topic, plus this dedicated website to express the idea as it grows. We have decided to make this idea, a free and non-mathematical attempt at understanding the most essential aspect of existence, what are we and the rest of the universe bound by, what ties us together? We have also decided to freely add any contributors ideas to what we hope becomes a global think tank regarding gravity push, and you will be accredited.

For the first time in recorded history, ordinary people without scientific backgrounds and little mathematical expertise can make valid contributions to an idea that might prove to be correct. By utilizing the imagination of the people we hope to refine our understanding of how gravity pushes things into place, from this point forward the idea of gravity push belongs to our world and everyone in it, if you have a comment, a different view, a feeling or inclination, please use the contact submission form on this site to let the coauthors know.
